Kakao Reveals AI Mileage Pilot Results: 98% of Developers Report Time Savings

Kakao shared its AI-native transformation strategy and cases of developer productivity innovation at the Korean Society for Human Resource Management's Autumn Academic Conference. The core of the presentation was that AI adoption is a process that fundamentally changes how organizations work and their culture, going beyond simple technology application.

Kakao has been verifying the effectiveness of AI usage through phased experiments since 2024. Initially, it conducted prototype creation experiments by solo developers, and subsequently confirmed a productivity improvement of over 50% in actual projects. From May to July of this year, it secured real-world application data through a pilot of the 'AI Mileage Program' involving approximately 100 developers.

As a result of the pilot, 98% of participating developers experienced reduced development time, and 89% perceived an improvement in code quality. Notably, 55% of respondents evaluated AI as a "capable colleague" rather than a simple search tool, stating that it allowed them to reduce repetitive tasks and focus on high-level decision-making such as problem-solving and design.

Kakao analyzed that these experimental results lead to improved developer autonomy and confidence. Based on this experience within development organizations, the company plans to expand the use of AI tools company-wide and accelerate the transition to an AI-native organization.
