AWS Weekly Briefing: BYOM Support for Amazon RDS for SQL Server, AWS IoT Device SDK for Swift Launch, and More (June 8, 2026)

AWS IoT Device SDK for Swift is now generally available (GA), providing MQTT 5 connectivity, Device Shadow, Jobs, and fleet provisioning capabilities on macOS, iOS, tvOS, and Linux. This shows that Swift is expanding beyond servers into the IoT and edge computing space.

Amazon RDS for SQL Server now supports BYOM (Bring Your Own Media), allowing reuse of existing Microsoft SQL Server licenses, and integrates with AWS License Manager to help with license compliance. In addition, Amazon Cognito has added multi-Region replication, which synchronizes user and device identity data to other Regions in near real-time.

In Amazon Bedrock, OpenAI's GPT-5.5, GPT-5.4, and Codex are now available. In particular, GPT-5.5 excels at agentic coding and data analysis, and Codex integrates with major IDEs such as VS Code, JetBrains, and Xcode to boost developer productivity.

In addition, Bedrock now supports CloudWatch metrics for OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible APIs, strengthening inference traffic monitoring, and offers a new console experience that makes model comparison and project management easier.
