Introducing Plan Mode: A Safer Way to 'Vibe Code'

Plan Mode, a new way to collaborate with Replit Agent, has been introduced. This mode provides a dedicated space to brainstorm ideas, outline tasks, and have strategic discussions without making any changes to the codebase. The existing default mode has now been renamed to Build mode.

In Plan Mode, the agent is prohibited from directly modifying code, but it retains the ability to inspect the repository, search documentation, and answer context-specific questions. Users can plan out development or design project architecture through structured task lists, and when ready, can click 'Start Building' to instantly switch to Build mode and begin implementation.

Key use cases include the following:

• Feature planning: Breaking down complex features into implementable task units, and designing database changes, API modifications, and UI/UX flows.
• Learning and exploration: Learning new technologies and frameworks, or studying various problem-solving approaches and design patterns.

Plan Mode complements the existing Build mode and Edit mode, supporting a more intentional and intelligent workflow across the entire development process, from early-stage feature scoping to debugging complex issues and exploring new code.
