Editor Overhaul

Kdenlive has revealed its development status over the course of 2025 and its roadmap for 2026.

25.04.0 centered on object segmentation-based background removal (SAM2), a C++ reimplementation of OpenTimelineIO, and a 300% performance improvement in audio waveform generation.

25.08.0 focused on over 300 commits and 15+ crash fixes, including a redesigned audio mixer, an overhaul of markers and guides, and Titler improvements.

25.12.0 added a Welcome Screen for first launch, a more flexible docking system, and a redesigned audio waveform UI and minimap in the project monitor.

The upcoming 26.04 release is set to introduce monitor mirroring, animated transition previews, and a feature that automatically adjusts duration when a transition is dropped onto the timeline.

The roadmap includes 10/12bit color support, playback optimization, OpenFX support, a subtitle system refactor, and development of Advanced Trimming Tools. The keyframe system is being restructured into a Dopesheet, and individual parameter keyframes will also be introduced.

Figures were also disclosed.

The team also stated that they are working on MSVC build support for MLT for Microsoft Store distribution.
