Apple's AI can now change your passwords. What could go wrong?

Apple announced a new Apple Intelligence feature, included in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, that lets the Passwords app automatically change passwords on websites.

With this feature, users no longer need to manually go into website settings—an Agentic AI navigates the website, logs in, replaces the password with a strong new one, and saves it, handling the entire process. This process is displayed to the user in real time via Live Activity.

Key Features and Expected Benefits:

• Addressing Security Vulnerabilities: Automates the replacement of leaked passwords that users would otherwise leave unchanged due to the hassle, reducing security gaps.
• Agent-Based Operation: Beyond simple text generation, this applies AI Agent technology that understands web interfaces and carries out complex workflows (redirects, pop-ups, MFA, etc.).
• Privacy Protection: As with existing password monitoring features, this is designed using privacy-preserving technology so that passwords are not exposed to Apple.

However, since the AI is entrusted with the user's authority to handle sensitive credentials, concrete technical verification of error handling in web environments, security architecture, and the approval model remains a task for the future.
