Exponential AI Growth and the Need for Policy Response

In just 4 years, AI technology has achieved Exponential growth, evolving from simple code writing to now writing most of the code at major AI companies. Following Scaling Laws, as computing power increases, AI's cognitive capabilities are also growing explosively, and the era of Powerful AI—which could be called a 'country of geniuses in a data center'—is expected to arrive before long.

On the other hand, political and legislative systems move very slowly. This Mismatch in timescale causes serious problems. Even within the few years it takes for Congress to review a bill, AI can rapidly evolve from a mere entertainment tool into a national strategic asset.

As shown in the recent Claude Mythos Preview case, frontier models have demonstrated that they can pose real threats to cybersecurity, financial systems, and national security. This means AI is not just a technology, but a tool of global strategic importance.

Therefore, current policy responses are at least one year behind the pace of AI development. To respond to rapidly compounding risks and opportunities, there is an urgent need to overhaul the existing slow policy system and take collective action that keeps pace with Exponential growth.
