OpenAI Announces Acquisition of Ona

OpenAI is acquiring Ona to expand its Codex ecosystem. Through this acquisition, Codex will go beyond being a simple software development tool to build a persistent agentic environment that allows agents to keep working even when users step away.

Ona's technology provides secure cloud execution and orchestration that gives agents access to the tools, systems, and context they need to perform tasks. This allows agents to continue complex work for hours or even days in a cloud environment, without being tied to the user's local device.

Strengthening security and governance for enterprise customers is also a key focus. Through Ona's customer-controlled execution model, enterprises gain control over the following:
