Google Tests Google AI Subscription Support in AI Studio

A new sidebar widget linking Gemini Ultra subscriptions to Google AI Studio has started appearing for some users. The popup presents two paths: continue using an API key, or switch to subscription-based token access.

The core change aims to reduce the billing separation between AI Studio and the Gemini app. Until now, users had to use consumer-facing AI Pro/Ultra separately from API credits for studio experimentation, but the new approach moves toward using a single subscription across both environments.

However, while the API key path maintains full access to all models and agents, subscription mode currently displays restrictions alongside it. The scope of the restrictions has not yet been disclosed, and the fact that "Agents" is directly mentioned in the text hints that AI Studio's next step will go beyond simple model testing into expanded agent functionality.
