Copilot Pricing Overhaul

GitHub Copilot individual plans are changing. Sign-ups for the individual plan are temporarily paused, usage limits are getting stricter, and Claude Opus 4.7 is only available on the pricier $39/month Pro+ tier. The existing Opus model is being removed entirely.

GitHub explains that agentic workflows have significantly increased compute load. As longer runs and parallel sessions grow, they're consuming resources beyond what the original pricing structure was designed to handle.

This change is organized to more strongly reflect token-based usage limits rather than a request-count basis. There appear to be per-session and per-week limits, seemingly intended to prevent a single agent request from generating excessive cost.

That said, the author points out that so many products carry the "GitHub Copilot" name that it isn't immediately clear which scope is being changed. Based on the linked pricing page, it appears that Copilot CLI, Copilot cloud agent, code review, and IDE features in VS Code, Zed, JetBrains, and others are all affected.
