Zed's Parallel Agents

In Zed, you can orchestrate multiple agents in parallel within the same window.

The new Threads Sidebar lets you finely specify the folders and repositories each agent can access, and monitor running threads at a glance.

Key features include the following.

• Group threads by project
• Choose a different agent per thread
• Handle work that spans multiple projects
• Isolate threads by splitting off worktrees when needed
• Instantly perform actions like stopping a thread, archiving, or starting a new thread

The default layout has also been adjusted. The Threads Sidebar sits on the left, the Agent Panel next to it, and the Project Panel and Git Panel are placed on the right. Existing users can apply this new layout as opt-in.

Zed explains that this workflow fits agentic engineering better. In particular, it emphasizes an experience that combines a style of working directly with code while using agents, along with a 120 fps UI, an open-source foundation, and bring your own agent support.

It's available in the latest Zed release, and you can open the Threads Sidebar with option-cmd-j on macOS or ctrl-option-j on Linux/Windows.
