Jensen Huang Defines the AI Industry as 5 Layers

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang defined AI not as a single industry, but as an ecosystem with a five-layer cake structure of interlocking layers that grow together.

The 5 Layers of the AI Industry:

• Layer 1. Energy: All forms of power production, including power grids, nuclear, solar, and wind.
• Layer 2. Chips & Computing: Hardware that processes intelligence, including semiconductors, networking, and silicon photonics.
• Layer 3. Infrastructure: Physical foundations such as land, power, buildings, and data center operations.
• Layer 4. Model: Development of large language models, such as those from OpenAI and Anthropic.
• Layer 5. Applications: All services that apply AI to real-world work, including finance, law, and healthcare.

Jensen Huang projected that AI-related investment will reach $1 trillion this year, and forecast that the scale of this ecosystem will ultimately grow to $20 trillion annually. He emphasized that while most investors focus only on the model layer, Layer 4, the real opportunity lies in the entire system, where all layers interact and grow compoundingly.
