US Administration Eases Sanctions on Anthropic

The Trump administration is stepping back from its clash with Anthropic after 2 months. The President ordered a full halt to government use of Anthropic AI in February and the Department of Defense issued a supply chain risk designation, but recently, pragmatism aimed at utilizing Mythos for cyber defense has been gaining momentum.

Recent developments are as follows.

• The White House met with Dario Amodei, and Trump praised Anthropic's executives on CNBC, mentioning the possibility of a deal.
• On Wednesday, the Department of Justice asked the court to temporarily suspend the government's appeal.
• The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) signaled that it may allow government agencies to use a modified Mythos.
• The Center for AI Standards and Innovation under the Department of Commerce is already testing Mythos, and other agencies such as the Treasury Department have requested access.

However, the Department of Defense's supply chain risk designation and 2 federal lawsuits remain in place. Demand for cyber defense has grown due to Anthropic's model's ability to find software vulnerabilities, but the restrictions the company has set to prevent mass surveillance and autonomous weapons use remain a point of conflict.
