AI Summaries Added to Gmail

Google added AI Overviews to Gmail as one of the Workspace updates announced at Google Cloud Next. Now, in business Gmail, users can type natural-language questions to get concise answers pulled directly from multiple emails and conversations.

This feature helps users quickly check items like performance improvements, project milestones, invoices, deck comments, and travel information without having to open each email individually. Google is rolling this out as the default setting for Gmail search, and for it to take effect, admins must turn on Gemini for Workspace in Gmail and Workspace Intelligence access to Gmail, while users must also enable Smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet and Google Workspace smart features.

• A feature previously available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers has now been expanded to business, enterprise, and education customers.
• Supported product lines include Business Starter/Standard/Plus, Enterprise Starter/Standard/Plus, Google AI Pro/Ultra, Frontline Plus, and Google AI Pro for Education.
• AI Overviews for Drive, announced together with this update, is also now more broadly available to eligible Workspace and Google AI plans.
