CSA Releases Matter 1.6: Ambient Sensing, Intuitive Setup, Multi-Ecosystem Experience, and Context-Based Control

The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) is accelerating the intelligence of smart homes with the release of Matter 1.6. The core of this update is the Ambient Sensing feature, which grasps contextual information about the user's surroundings to provide more advanced home services.

The new Ambient Context Sensor provides information across the following 4 major categories.

• Human Activity Detection: falls, sleeping, walking, package pickup, etc. (10 items)
• Object Identification: adults/children, pets, cars, packages, etc. (12 items)
• Sound Identification: glass breaking, clapping, faucet sounds, coughing, etc. (21 items)
• Predictive Activity Notification: activity prediction based on the above events

In particular, it supports the Concurrent Ambient Sensing feature, which delivers up to 10 different pieces of contextual information simultaneously from a single sensing event. For example, if 'adult (object),' 'fall (activity),' and 'breaking sound (sound)' are detected simultaneously in a bathroom, a much more accurate situational assessment is possible than with simple fall detection alone.

In addition, the Thermostat Suggestion feature enables smart temperature control that balances energy savings with user convenience, and core features such as smoother device setup (Commissioning) and improved security signaling have also been strengthened.
