How to Get Started with Codex

Download the Codex desktop app, log in with your ChatGPT account, and first create a thread to start working. A thread is a space where you exchange messages with Codex to solve tasks, similar to a ChatGPT conversation.

For most tasks, it's better to work within a project. A project is linked to a folder on your computer—for example, you can create a Codex folder and place project-specific subfolders inside it for easier management. Put the files you need into the folder, or leave it empty to let Codex create new files.

It's recommended to start with simple, useful tasks at first. For example, tasks like organizing notes, cleaning up a small dataset, or comparing document drafts are suitable. Start with the default recommended model, and only increase reasoning for more difficult tasks.

Work locally, which appears in projects, means Codex operates only within the folder you specify. Initially, it's recommended to keep Default permissions, and Full permissions should only be used once you clearly understand what it does and after admin confirmation.
