OpenAI Models, Codex, and Managed Agents Come to AWS

OpenAI and AWS have expanded their strategic partnership to bring OpenAI models, Codex, and Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents to the AWS environment. All three features are available starting today in limited preview.

• OpenAI models on AWS: OpenAI models, including the frontier model GPT-5.5, can now be used on Amazon Bedrock.
• Codex on AWS: More than 4 million people use Codex weekly, and its range of use is expanding to include writing code, explaining systems, refactoring, generating tests, modernizing legacy systems, summarizing materials, and creating briefs, slide decks, and spreadsheets. Setting Bedrock as a provider makes it available starting with the Codex CLI, the desktop app, and the Visual Studio Code extension.
• Managed Agents: OpenAI-powered Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents maintain context, use tools to execute multi-step workflows, and integrate with AWS's security and compliance controls.

OpenAI explained that this combination offers enterprises a path to attach OpenAI to app development, software engineering, and agentic workflows while maintaining their security, compliance, identity, procurement, and billing structures. Customers with AWS cloud commitments and Bedrock access can apply their Codex usage toward their AWS commitments, and customer data is processed within Amazon Bedrock.
