OpenAI Models Come to Amazon Bedrock: Interview with OpenAI and AWS CEOs

AWS and OpenAI have unveiled a collaboration that brings OpenAI's frontier models into an AWS native agent runtime through Bedrock Managed Agents.

This form is closer to a managed agent package that enterprises can operate immediately, rather than a simple model call.

Customer data stays within the AWS VPC, and AWS also handles first-line support. The current collaboration is described as an exclusive engagement with Amazon.

The interview emphasized that agent performance is strongly tied not just to the model but also to the following elements.

On AgentCore, you can build agentic workflows directly, and it's also possible to call OpenAI models externally. However, this collaboration focuses on integrating those pieces into a product to lower the barrier to enterprise adoption.

On the infrastructure side, they operate a mix of Trainium and GPUs, and expect the share of Trainium to grow over time. In the long run, small models and ultra-large frontier models will coexist, but for now, demand for frontier models and capacity shortages still dominate the market, and AWS and OpenAI view AI as the next platform shift after the cloud.
