Warp Open-Sources Client Under AGPL

Warp has open-sourced its Rust-based agentic development environment client under AGPL.

The founding sponsor of the new GitHub repository is OpenAI, and Warp emphasizes an agent-first workflow combined with its own Oz cloud agent orchestration platform.

The key changes are as follows.

• Warp started as a terminal for Mac in 2022 and expanded into an IDE and ADE (agentic development environment), and has now open-sourced its client.
• The company views the development bottleneck as lying not in typing code but in writing specs and verifying behavior, and emphasizes a structure where agents handle implementation.
• The released client is still strongly coupled with Oz, and public GitHub issues serve as the standard for tracking features.
• Broader open model support including Kimi, MiniMax, Qwen, settings that change the UI from terminal to full ADE, and configuration files that improve portability across devices have also been added.

With this transition, Warp reveals its strategy of building products faster together with the community and differentiating itself from well-funded closed-source competitors.
