AWS and OpenAI Expand Bedrock Integration

AWS and OpenAI are expanding their partnership to offer OpenAI's latest models and Codex on Amazon Bedrock in a limited preview.

There are three key announcements.

• OpenAI models on Bedrock: You can use the latest OpenAI models on top of Bedrock's existing API, security, governance, and cost controls.
• Codex on Bedrock: You can use OpenAI's coding agent with AWS credentials, supporting Codex CLI, the desktop app, and the VS Code extension.
• Bedrock Managed Agents, powered by OpenAI: Designed to combine OpenAI frontier models with agentic capabilities to quickly deploy production-ready agents.

AWS explained that IAM, PrivateLink, CloudTrail, encryption, and compliance integrations can be applied as-is. Usage of OpenAI models and Codex can be included under existing AWS cloud commitments, simplifying procurement and cost management as well.

Bedrock Managed Agents use AgentCore as the default runtime environment, with the ability to add permission policies, agent and tool discovery, and observability and evaluation features. OpenAI stated that Codex is used by more than 4 million people per week.
