Vercel and Shopify Rebuild Hydrogen from the Ground Up

Vercel announced that, in collaboration with Shopify, it is redesigning the headless storefront framework Hydrogen from the ground up. The new version is open source and adopts a Runtime Agnostic approach, allowing deployment anywhere JavaScript runs.

Developers can build using Svelte, Nuxt, Next.js, or a custom framework. This rebuild consists largely of three layers.

• Core: Centralizes the complex logic related to the Shopify API, eliminating the repetitive 'glue code' developers used to write each time and making it easier to respond to API changes.
• Client: Turns repetitive client logic, such as Cart state management, into a library, letting developers focus on business logic instead of complex state management. A preview version targeting React is currently available.
• Server: Provides the full-stack access developers need to build storefronts.
