Perplexity Introduces Personal Computer for Mac

Perplexity has added Personal Computer to its new app for Mac. This feature continuously handles tasks across local files, native Mac apps, the web, and Perplexity's secure servers.

The company started as a search and summarization engine and has expanded its agentic capabilities to the Comet browser and Computer. When used together with the Comet browser, it can handle web-based tools without direct connectors, and it emphasizes an approach that binds model, file, and tool orchestration into a single agentic harness.

Its use cases involve tasks that mix multiple sources and apps.

• Writing a research brief by combining PDFs, spreadsheets, and open tabs in a folder
• Writing a document by combining notes from one app with a draft from another
• Analyzing by cross-referencing a CSV in Downloads with web sources
• Building a live dashboard instead of a document

In particular, using a Mac mini as an always-on central device lets the agent run 24/7. Tasks can also be started or approved from other Apple devices such as an iPhone. In Perplexity's secure development sandbox on its servers, tools, files, 400+ connectors, and personal context are orchestrated together.

The new macOS app can be downloaded by all users but is not yet on the App Store, and the existing Mac app will be discontinued in the coming weeks. For Pro and Max subscribers, credit usage is tied to their subscription.
