Internet Archive Switzerland

Internet Archive Switzerland, a nonprofit foundation based in St. Gallen, Switzerland, has officially launched. This organization independently extends the existing Internet Archive's mission of "Universal Access to All Knowledge" within the Swiss context, focusing on increasing access to digital knowledge worldwide.

Initial activities will center on preserving at-risk archives and collecting generative AI (Generative AI) trends. In particular, in collaboration with the Computer Science department at the University of St. Gallen, the organization will advance the Gen AI Archive project, and under the leadership of Professor Damian Borth, plans to pioneer a new area of preservation called AI model archiving.

Additionally, ahead of the UNESCO conference in Paris in November 2026, the organization is exploring ways to protect at-risk archives. Internet Archive Switzerland will work alongside the existing Internet Archive and its Canadian and European chapters to reinforce their shared vision of a distributed, resilient global digital library.
