OpenAI Codex and Figma Launch Seamless Code-to-Design Workflow

OpenAI and Figma have deepened their partnership, launching a new 'code-to-design' integration that directly connects Codex and Figma. This allows product builders to easily convert code into design canvases and design files back into code, accelerating product development.

This integration leverages MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open source standard that enables AI agents to interact with external data and tools. Through the Figma MCP Server, Codex connects directly to tools like Figma Design, Figma Make, and FigJam, breaking down the boundary between code implementation and design exploration.

The key workflows are as follows:

• Design to code: Detailed designs from Figma can be brought into Codex and immediately implemented as code.
• Code to design: UI code can be converted into editable Figma designs, allowing new ideas to be explored visually.
• Bidirectional loop: You can start from any stage—prompt, code, or design—and quickly complete a product while maintaining context.

Since Codex first launched as a CLI in April 2025, it has now surpassed 1 million weekly users, with usage surging more than 400% compared to earlier this year. Global companies such as Cisco, NVIDIA, Ramp, and Datadog have adopted Codex for their work.
