ChatGPT Adopted for GenAI.mil

OpenAI is deploying ChatGPT to GenAI.mil, the U.S. Department of War's secure enterprise AI platform. This move represents the next stage in providing customized AI capabilities to the platform, which is used by 3 million civilian and military personnel.

This collaboration builds on existing cybersecurity collaboration with DARPA and a pilot program with the Department of War's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO). OpenAI plans to help U.S. service members strengthen their mission capabilities and ensure reliable performance through tools that meet the highest security standards.

The customized ChatGPT deployed on GenAI.mil will support the following tasks:

• Summarizing and analyzing policy and guidance documents
• Drafting and reviewing procurement and contracting materials
• Generating internal reports and compliance checklists
• Supporting research, planning, mission support, and administrative workflows

For security, the system operates on approved government cloud infrastructure, and processed data is isolated within the government environment. Notably, user data is not used to train OpenAI's public or commercial models, thoroughly ensuring the security of mission data.
