Codex App Launch Announcement

OpenAI has launched the Codex app, available on macOS and Windows. The app is designed to serve as an 'agent command center,' allowing users to manage multiple AI agents at once, run tasks in parallel, and collaborate with agents on long-running projects.

The Codex app enables agents to work in separate threads organized by project. Users can review the agent's changes within the thread, leave comments on the diff, or make edits directly in the editor. In particular, it has built-in worktrees functionality, providing an environment where multiple agents can work in independent copies within the same repository without code conflicts.

Also, Codex is evolving beyond simple code writing to a stage of performing actual computer tasks through Skills. Skills combine instructions, resources, and scripts to enable Codex to connect to specific tools or complete complex tasks according to a team's workflow.

In practice, Codex combined image generation and web game development Skills to demonstrate its ability to build a 3D voxel racing game with just a single prompt, taking on the roles of designer, developer, and QA tester.
