Strengthening the AI Supply Chain Through Domestic US Manufacturing

Building AI infrastructure is a historic opportunity to strengthen the domestic US supply chain and rebuild industry. OpenAI is working to fulfill its 10GW power supply commitment through the Stargate initiative, and aims to build on this to accelerate domestic AI manufacturing capacity in the US.

The newly announced RFP (Request for Proposals) aims to secure domestic manufacturing capacity across the entire AI supply chain, including data center inputs, consumer electronics, and robotics. The key recruitment areas are as follows:

• Consumer electronics: modules, tooling, equipment, and final assembly
• Data center hardware: manufacturing of compute, power, cooling, and support devices
• Advanced robotics: core components such as gearboxes, motors, and power electronics

AI infrastructure is not limited to just chips and data centers. A broad physical ecosystem—including racks, cables, networking equipment, cooling, and power systems—is essential. This RFP aims to help the US maintain sustained leadership in AI through such partnerships and demand signals.

The deadline for proposal submissions is June 2026, and the submitted proposals will be used to inform future partnership building, procurement strategy, and infrastructure planning.
