Strengthened Collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)

OpenAI and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to accelerate scientific discovery using AI and advanced computing. This collaboration is part of OpenAI for Science, and aims to support the Genesis Mission, in which government, national laboratories, and industry work together.

Both sides will exchange technical expertise and explore collaboration opportunities, focusing on fields that require advanced modeling and data, such as fusion energy. OpenAI has already been working closely with national laboratories—for example, deploying advanced reasoning models on the Venado supercomputer at Los Alamos National Laboratory—integrating AI into real-world research environments.

Recently, OpenAI held the 1,000 Scientist AI Jam Session, in which more than 1,000 scientists from 9 laboratories participated, to test the performance of AI models and gather feedback. OpenAI has also designated 2026 as the "Year of Science," emphasizing that access to AI models and computing resources will be a key driver of scientific progress.
