OpenAI Launches OpenAI Academy for News Organizations

OpenAI, in partnership with the American Journalism Project and The Lenfest Institute, has launched OpenAI Academy for News Organizations, a new learning hub for journalists, editors, and publishers. The platform helps news organizations responsibly adopt AI to improve investigative research, product development, and business sustainability.

The Academy offers the following core programs:

• On-demand training: AI Essentials for Journalists, covering core AI concepts and newsroom use cases, and advanced courses for technical/product-focused teams.
• Practical use cases: Focused on investigation and background research, translation and multilingual reporting, data analysis, and improving production efficiency.
• Open-source projects and resources: Shared resources that other news organizations can easily adapt to their own environments.
• Responsible use guides: Tips and case studies for building internal policies and governance frameworks.

This initiative was designed with an eye toward concerns about reliability, accuracy, and jobs that arise during AI adoption. OpenAI is collaborating with a range of global partners, including News Corp, Axios, Financial Times, Condé Nast, and Hearst, and plans to continue expanding technical support and learning opportunities for the healthy development of the news ecosystem.
