Developers can now submit apps to ChatGPT

OpenAI has begun a submission process for the review and publishing of apps that work within ChatGPT. Developers can use the Apps SDK (beta) to build apps that add new context to conversations or perform practical actions such as ordering groceries, creating slides, and searching for apartments.

Users can search for and discover new apps through the app directory within ChatGPT. Apps can be launched by @ mentioning them during a conversation or by selecting them directly from the tools menu, and in the future OpenAI plans to experiment with a feature that recommends appropriate apps by analyzing conversation context or user patterns.

Key resources and features for developers are as follows:

• Developer resources: Guidelines, open-source example apps, a UI library, and a quickstart guide are provided
• Submission and management: Apps can be submitted and approval status tracked through the OpenAI Developer Platform
• Monetization: Currently, apps can link out to external websites or apps to conduct transactions for physical goods (additional options such as digital goods are under review)

All apps must comply with OpenAI's safety, privacy, and transparency guidelines, and users can disconnect a connected app at any time to block its data access.
