Replacing Commercial Storage with Ceph-Based Internal Storage

Internal storage development is being pursued to address the burden of commercial storage license costs and vendor lock-in issues that arise as cloud service scale grows. This goes beyond simple cost reduction and is a strategic choice to secure technical control over core infrastructure and increase service flexibility.

Ceph enables integrated management of object (RGW), block (RBD), and file (CephFS) storage on a single platform, which is advantageous for operational standardization. In particular, through the CRUSH algorithm, it provides large-scale scalability without metadata bottlenecks, and through Strong Consistency and Self-Healing mechanisms, it can achieve both data reliability and operational automation at the same time.

For stable operation, the following technical approaches are being attempted.

• Internal builds based on enterprise source: To compensate for the limitations of the community version and quickly secure needed features, a proprietary image is built based on verified source.
• Test automation: Cluster configuration and regression testing are systematically performed using the Teuthology framework.
• Authentication integration: While maintaining AWS S3 API compatibility, a service control layer design that can integrate with the company's own JWT authentication system is under review.
