Expanded Data Residency Support for Global Business Customers

OpenAI is expanding its Data Residency feature to support over 1 million business customers worldwide. This allows companies to store data in specific regions to comply with local regulatory and data protection requirements.

Data residency is currently available in Korea, the US, Japan, Europe, the UK, Canada, Singapore, India, Australia, and the UAE. Supported regions will continue to expand going forward.

ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu users can set up a new workspace to store conversations, uploaded files, Custom GPTs, and image generation outputs in their chosen region.

For the API Platform, enterprise customers with advanced data controls can create a new Project in the API dashboard and select their preferred region. Requests made through this project are processed within that region, and model requests and responses are not stored on OpenAI's servers.

OpenAI also provides the following robust security and compliance features:

• Advanced encryption: Uses AES-256 for data at rest and TLS 1.2+ for data in transit, with EKM (Enterprise Key Management) allowing customers to manage their own encryption keys.
• No use of data for training: Data collected through business plans and the API is not used for model training unless the customer explicitly opts in.
• Compliance with global standards: Supports GDPR and CCPA, and complies with international security certifications such as SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO/IEC 27001.
