OpenAI and Foxconn Advance US-Based Manufacturing Partnership to Strengthen AI Supply Chain

OpenAI and Foxconn (Hon Hai Technology Group) announced a collaboration on the design and manufacturing readiness of next-generation AI infrastructure hardware in the United States. OpenAI will share insights into the hardware requirements of the AI industry, while Foxconn will design and develop hardware based on these insights to be manufactured at US facilities. The agreement does not include any immediate purchase or financial obligations, but OpenAI will have the option to evaluate and purchase the resulting systems early.

This initiative focuses on three key priorities:

• Multi-generation data center hardware design: Jointly co-designing, engineering, and developing multiple generations of AI data center racks in parallel to keep pace with rapidly evolving model requirements.
• Strengthening and simplifying the US AI supply chain: Improving rack architecture to enable US-based manufacturing, expanding chipset and domestic supplier sourcing, and scaling local testing and assembly to build a resilient supply chain.
• US-based manufacturing of core AI data center components: Manufacturing core equipment such as cabling, networking, cooling, and power systems within the United States to support the rapid buildout of high-performance computing infrastructure.

This collaboration aims to solidify US leadership in AI and drive the reindustrialization of the United States through AI infrastructure by building the core technologies of the AI era domestically.
