The Path to Truly Creative AI

Human creativity comes from an intrinsic desire toward survival, reproduction, and flourishing, and the fears that accompany it. The sense that actions are one's own enables blame and praise, and on top of that builds a faster iterative improvement loop.

AI, on the other hand, has no such desire or subjective experience, so it has no real motivation to feel or create. Instead, it is very good at simulations that make it appear as though it has emotions and interests.

In the end, the key question is whether AI can be made into something that feels and experiences things. But the moment we create a being with desires, responsibility for that experience follows as well, so before creating billions of AIs that would take failure as a failure of life itself, we need to carefully consider what exactly we are building.
