OpenAI Announces 'OpenAI Learning Accelerator'

OpenAI has launched the OpenAI Learning Accelerator, aimed at AI research, education, and tool deployment to strengthen India's educational ecosystem. This initiative is designed to help AI support learning for India's vast student population and meet the unique needs of its education system.

Through a partnership with IIT Madras, OpenAI will provide $500,000 in research funding to study the impact of AI on learning outcomes. This research will be grounded in cognitive neuroscience to develop innovative teaching methods, and the results will be made public to inform future product development.

Over the next 6 months, approximately 500,000 ChatGPT licenses and educational programs will be deployed through the following partnerships:

• India's Ministry of Education (MoE): ChatGPT support for public school teachers
• All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE): Strengthening digital capabilities and employability at technical education institutions
• ARISE member schools: Tailored educational support for K-12 educators

In addition, ChatGPT Study Mode, which helps learners study step by step, will be rolled out at scale. This feature acts as a personalized tutor, guiding students beyond simply checking answers to build critical thinking and deeper understanding.

Meanwhile, OpenAI has appointed Raghav Gupta, formerly of Coursera, as Head of Education for India and Asia Pacific to lead educational development in the region.
