ChatGPT Introduces 'Study Mode'

OpenAI has introduced study mode, which helps users learn in depth by working through problems step by step rather than simply providing answers. This feature is currently available to Free, Plus, Pro, and Team users, and will be applied to ChatGPT Edu within a few weeks.

Study mode was designed in collaboration with education experts and scientists. Based on learning science research, behavioral patterns such as encouraging active engagement, managing cognitive load, and promoting metacognition and self-reflection have been incorporated into the system instructions.

The key features are as follows:

• Interactive prompts: Combines Socratic questioning with hints to encourage active learning.
• Scaffolded responses: Breaks down complex topics into easy-to-understand sections, highlighting key connections.
• Personalized support: Adjusts the learning level based on the user's proficiency and previous conversation history.
• Knowledge checks: Uses quizzes and open-ended questions to confirm understanding and build the ability to apply what was learned.
• Flexibility: Provides a toggle to turn the feature on or off at any point during the conversation.
