OpenAI and UK Government Sign Strategic Partnership for AI-Driven Growth

OpenAI and the UK Government have signed a strategic partnership to accelerate AI adoption and achieve the UK's 'AI Opportunities Action Plan.' Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Peter Kyle, UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to maximize the economic and social benefits of AI.

The partnership covers AI adoption in the public and private sectors, infrastructure development, and technical information exchange. Key areas of cooperation include:

• Deploying advanced AI models across the public and private sectors to increase the efficiency of civil servants and support access to public services for small and medium-sized enterprises and citizens
• Exploring ways to implement infrastructure priorities to secure the UK's AI sovereignty
• Developing a technical information sharing program and expanding security research cooperation through collaboration with the UK AI Security Institute

Since opening its London office in 2023, OpenAI has built a team of more than 100 employees, including research and engineering staff, and plans to announce further expansion this summer.

The UK Government is currently utilizing OpenAI technology across various areas, including a chatbot leveraging the API to support small and medium-sized enterprises, an AI assistant called 'Humphrey' that reduces administrative burden for civil servants, and 'Consult,' which accelerates the policy decision-making process.
