Introducing NextGenAI

OpenAI has launched NextGenAI, a consortium partnering with 15 leading research institutions to drive research breakthroughs and transform education. OpenAI is providing $50 million in research grants, compute resources, and API access to support students, educators, and researchers.

NextGenAI aims to bring together top institutions in the US and abroad to accelerate technological progress at a pace difficult for any single institution to achieve alone. Key partners include Caltech, MIT, Harvard, and Oxford.

Participating institutions will use AI to tackle high-impact challenges such as:

• The Ohio State University: Accelerating research in digital health, manufacturing, energy, and agriculture, and developing advanced learning models.
• Harvard & Boston Children’s Hospital: Shortening diagnosis times for rare diseases and improving AI alignment in medical decision-making.
• University of Oxford: Digitizing rare texts from the Bodleian Library and making them searchable to scholars worldwide via API.
• MIT: Using the API and compute resources to train its own AI models and develop new applications.
• Texas A&M: Strengthening education on responsible AI use in academic settings through a generative AI literacy initiative.
