SearchGPT, a Prototype of New AI Search Features, Unveiled

OpenAI is testing SearchGPT, a prototype of new AI search features. This feature combines the strengths of AI models with real-time information from the web to provide users with fast, timely answers along with clear sources.

Users can ask follow-up questions as if conversing with a person, enjoying a conversational search experience where the context of the conversation is maintained. It is also designed to include inline citations and links within answers, and to make it easy to check related sources through a sidebar.

For the mutual benefit of publishers and creators, SearchGPT operates separately from the training of OpenAI's generative AI models. Therefore, even if a site operator opts out of AI training, their content can still appear in search results, protecting the search ecosystem.

OpenAI plans to improve local information and commerce features going forward, while also directly integrating SearchGPT's core features into ChatGPT.
