LG AI Research has introduced EXAONE 4.0, a next-generation hybrid AI model that combines general natural language processing with advanced reasoning capabilities. EXAONE 4.0 carries forward a step-by-step, thinking-based problem-solving approach, delivering outstanding performance in demanding fields such as mathematics, science, and coding.

It also supports MCP (Model Context Protocol) and Function Calling, establishing a technical foundation for realizing Agentic AI, and has expanded its language support to Spanish in addition to Korean and English.

Key performance metrics are as follows:

• MMLU-Pro (Knowledge/Reasoning): 81.8 points
• LiveCodeBench v6 (Coding): 66.7 points
• GPQA-Diamond (Science): 75.4 points
• AIME 2025 (Math): 85.3 points

The model lineup is offered in two forms:

• Expert model (32B): Suited for highly specialized fields such as law, accounting, and medicine, it demonstrated its expertise by passing 6 state-certified qualification exams.
• On-device model (1.2B): Half the size of its predecessor yet with improved performance, it can run in highly secure environments without a server connection.

LG AI Research has released the models via Hugging Face for research and academic purposes, and has expanded free licensing for educational institutions. In addition, through a partnership with Friendli AI, it has launched a commercial API service that can be used without a GPU, supporting companies' adoption of AI.
