Anthropic Signs $200 Million Partnership with the Gates Foundation

Anthropic has formed a partnership with the Gates Foundation combining $200 million in grants, Claude usage credits, and technical support over the next 4 years, to jointly advance global health, life sciences, education, and economic mobility programs.

The collaboration is led by Anthropic's Beneficial Deployments team. This team provides partners with Claude credits and engineering support, and builds AI public goods such as public health datasets and evaluation benchmarks.

In global health and life sciences, the partnership targets the challenge of access to health services in low- and middle-income countries, supporting vaccine and treatment development and health data-driven decision-making.

• Build connectors, benchmarks, and evaluation frameworks for Claude to validate performance on medical tasks.
• Use health-intelligence data for health worker deployment, supply chain management, and outbreak detection.
• Expand screening of candidate vaccines and treatments for polio, HPV, and eclampsia/preeclampsia.
• Collaborate with the Gates Foundation's Institute for Disease Modeling (IDM) to improve deployment forecasting for malaria and tuberculosis.

In education, they will jointly develop tools for K-12 students in the United States, sub-Saharan Africa, and India. They will build benchmarks, datasets, and knowledge graphs for math tutoring, college guidance, and curriculum design, with the first public releases expected later this year.

• In sub-Saharan Africa and India, build foundational literacy/numeracy apps.
• This work will be carried out with GAILA (Global AI for Learning Alliance).

For economic mobility, they will release agriculture-specific Claude improvements, regional crop datasets, and agricultural benchmarks as public goods to boost the productivity of smallholder farmers. In the United States, they will create portable records of skills and credentials, career guidance for job searching and reskilling, and measurement tools linking education programs to employment outcomes.

Building on the Gates Foundation's execution experience, Anthropic plans to expand the partnership while accumulating and publishing more evidence of how effectively Claude solves real-world problems.
