OpenAI Unveils Codex Integration into the ChatGPT Mobile App

OpenAI has unveiled a feature that integrates Codex into the ChatGPT mobile app (iOS/Android), allowing coding tasks running on desktop or remote environments to be controlled from mobile.

The core of this update is not performing coding directly on mobile, but rather remotely managing, approving, and monitoring already-running agentic coding sessions.

Key Features and Characteristics:

• Remote control and management: Ability to check running task threads, approve tasks (approval), change models, and start new tasks.
• Real-time monitoring: Ability to check terminal output, test results, screenshots, and code diffs in real time.
• Workflow continuity: By taking over and managing long-running agent tasks via mobile, this eliminates the previous inconvenience of having to keep a laptop running continuously.

This feature is currently being rolled out in Preview form, and is initially supported primarily on macOS. OpenAI is pursuing expanded Windows support going forward, as well as expansion into an AI Superapp combining ChatGPT and Codex.
