AWS Sustainability console Launched: Programmatic Access, Configurable CSV Reports, and Scope 1-3 Reports in One Place

The AWS Sustainability console has launched as a separate service, consolidating AWS's sustainability reporting and resources in one place. It's based on the existing Customer Carbon Footprint Tool (CCFT), but makes access and workflows more flexible.

The biggest change is an independent permissions model. Sustainability personnel can now access emissions data directly without Billing console permissions, and can view Scope 1, 2, 3 emissions by AWS Region and by service.

Reporting features have also been strengthened.

• Monthly and annual carbon emissions reports can be downloaded from the Reports page
• Both market-based method (MBM) and location-based method (LBM) are supported
• Custom CSV reports can be created by choosing the needed fields, time granularity, and filters
• The console's base year and quarter can be set to match your organization's fiscal year

In addition, emissions data can be retrieved programmatically via API, AWS SDKs, and AWS CLI. This is useful for collecting specific monthly data for large-scale accounts, configuring custom account groups, and integrating with dashboards or regulatory compliance pipelines.

The data and methodology themselves are the same as CCFT, and existing Data Exports can still be used. Historical data is available back to January 2022, and the service can be started right away from the AWS Management Console at no additional cost.
