AWS Weekly News: AWS AI/ML Scholars Program, Agent Plugin for AWS Serverless, and More (March 30, 2026)

The AWS AI & ML Scholars program has reopened. It offers free AI education to up to 100,000 people worldwide, and the top 4,500 who complete a foundational generative AI assignment will receive full funding for a 3-month Udacity Nanodegree. The application deadline is June 24, 2026.

This week also brought announcements related to serverless and developer tools. Agent Plugin for AWS Serverless is a modular plugin that helps AI coding assistants like Kiro, Claude Code, and Cursor more easily build, deploy, debug, and operate serverless applications.

Key launches include the following.

• Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL: express configuration that lets you create a serverless database in seconds
• Aurora PostgreSQL Free Tier: now available on the AWS Free Tier
• Amazon SageMaker Studio: now supports Kiro and Cursor IDE as remote IDEs
• AWS Management Console: can now be customized with visual settings such as account color, region, and service visibility
• Aurora DSQL Connector for Ruby: simplifies development of Ruby apps built on the pg gem
• AWS Lambda: expanded the file descriptor limit on Lambda Managed Instances from 1,024 -> 4,096
• AWS Lambda: now supports up to 32 GB of memory and 16 vCPUs
• Amazon Polly: released a Bidirectional Streaming API for conversational AI

In addition, AWS Summit season is kicking off. Major events are scheduled in Paris (April 1), London (April 22), Bengaluru (April 23-24), Singapore (May 6), Tel Aviv (May 6), and Stockholm (May 7), and AWS Community Days will also be held in San Francisco (April 10) and Romania (April 23-24).
