AWS Weekly Roundup: Amazon S3 20th Anniversary, Amazon Route 53 Global Resolver GA, and More (March 16, 2026)

Amazon S3 has marked its 20th anniversary since public launch. S3 now stores over 500 trillion objects, handles over 200 million requests per second worldwide, and its price has dropped about 85% since launch, down to the low single-digit cents per gigabyte range.

The key release this week is the general availability of Amazon Route 53 Global Resolver. This service is available in 30 AWS Regions, supports IPv4/IPv6 DNS queries, and enables resolution of both public internet domains and private domains in Route 53 private hosted zones from anywhere. It also provides query filtering and centralized logging that block malicious domains, NSFW domains, and DNS tunneling and DGA-related threats, and with the GA launch, Dictionary DGA protection has also been added.

In addition, the following features were introduced last week:

• Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Runtime: support for stateful MCP server capabilities, with elicitation/sampling/progress notifications added
• Amazon WorkSpaces: support for Windows Server 2025
• AWS Builder ID: added GitHub and Amazon sign-in
• Amazon Redshift: support for reusable templates for COPY operations

Along with this, schedules for major events such as AWS Summit, Community Day, GTC 2026, and Community GameDay Europe were also announced.
