Google reportedly developing conversational app feature for Gemini Notebook

Google is preparing a new artifact type for Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) that turns source material into working, conversational apps. In the Studio panel, a tile labeled 'App' has been spotted alongside the not-yet-released Canvas and Lit Review options.

When a user enters a prompt, it appears the feature will be able to generate dashboards, study aids, or lightweight games based on the content of a book, drawing on the material included in the notebook. However, no official launch timeline or actual availability has been confirmed yet.

This change lines up with Google's recent moves. On July 16, Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook and expanded a secure cloud computing environment—capable of writing and running code based on uploaded sources—to AI Pro users.

In addition, the following feature updates have been observed:

• AI Notes: Being improved with an added button that lets users add their own notes, in addition to the model's drafting capability.
• Watermarking toggle: Presumed to be a feature for controlling the Google branding shown on exported videos, slides, and infographics.
• Web sourcing: Includes the ability to save results pulled from the web during a chat as a source for later use.
