AI Gateway Adds Support for Team and Project Spend Budgets

AI Gateway has been updated to allow setting and tracking spend budgets by team and project, in addition to the existing per-API key scope. When a spending limit is set for each scope, the gateway measures usage, and once the limit is reached, additional requests are blocked until the budget resets or the limit is raised.

A single request can fall under multiple budgets at once, and it must pass all linked budgets to be processed.

• Team: All requests a team runs through the gateway
• Project: All requests attributed to a specific project
• API key: Requests from a single API key

BYOK usage is not included in budgets by default. The AI Gateway Budgets tab in the dashboard lets you view spending status, limits, and renewal cycles for each scope at a glance.

Email notifications can be sent when usage reaches 50%, 75%, and 100% of the limit within the renewal period. Notifications are off by default and do not block requests; actual blocking only occurs when the budget limit is reached.

If a default budget is set for a project or API key, items without their own budget automatically inherit it. An explicitly set budget takes precedence over the default budget.
