OpenAI and Dell Bring Codex into Hybrid and Enterprise On-Premises Environments

OpenAI and Dell Technologies announced a collaboration to bring Codex into enterprise hybrid environments and internal infrastructure. OpenAI stated that Codex is used by over 4 million developers weekly, and is applied to code review, test coverage, incident response, and reasoning over large repositories.

Codex's scope is expanding beyond coding into use as a work agent as well. As workflows emerge that have it handle report writing, product feedback routing, lead qualification, follow-up email drafting, and task coordination, enterprises want to deploy it closer to where their actual data and systems reside.

The key points of this collaboration are as follows.

• Connecting with the Dell AI Data Platform, already used by many enterprises, to access enterprise data, documents, operational knowledge, and workflows
• Exploring potential integration with the Dell AI Factory, where enterprises run their AI workloads
• Examining ways for ChatGPT Enterprise and API-based solutions to handle data preparation, core business system management, test execution, and AI application deployment together with Dell's hybrid infrastructure

Ihab Tarazi, SVP and CTO of Dell's Infrastructure Solutions Group, said this combination offers a practical path to safely deploy AI agents at scale within internal environments where enterprise data already resides. OpenAI explained that this would allow customers to build, test, automate, analyze, and execute with richer context.
