OpenAI for Singapore launches

OpenAI, together with Singapore's Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI), has launched OpenAI for Singapore, investing more than S$300 million to support Singapore's national AI strategy.

The initiative moves on three axes.

• Supporting enterprises in adopting frontier AI and solving hard problems
• Developing local AI talent
• Expanding AI access for individuals and businesses broadly

At the core is the Applied AI Lab being built in Singapore. This is OpenAI's first lab outside the US, and over the coming years it will hire more than 200 Singapore-based tech professionals, growing it into a hub for Forward-Deployed Engineers. The lab will handle real-world deployments aligned with Singapore's AI Mission priorities in public service, finance, healthcare, and digital infrastructure, and its local office space will expand as the team grows.

On the talent and outreach front, the Ministry of Education and GovTech will jointly create AI-based learning cases and tools, and strengthen support for more interactive Mother Tongue learning. OpenAI will also build local capability through the OpenAI Academy Singapore chapter, Codex for Teachers hackathons, a Forward-Deployed Engineer training program, and participation in the National AI Impact Programme, while expanding real-world adoption through an AI-native startup accelerator and workshops for micro-businesses and SMEs.

OpenAI stated that through this partnership, it aims to be a long-term partner in expanding the practical use of AI across Singapore.
