Apple Integrates Qwen with Macs in China

Apple has announced a feature connecting Siri and Writing Tools to Alibaba's Qwen models for some Mac users in mainland China.

Users can access the following features through Qwen:

• Photo and document analysis with expanded answers in Siri
• Text and image generation based on descriptions

Using these features requires macOS 26.6 or later, as well as creating and logging in to a Qwen account. According to Apple's documentation, Alibaba cannot use this data for model training.

This integration is part of a China-specific collaboration that followed the approval of Apple Intelligence's launch by Chinese regulators in July. Alibaba stated that Qwen will support Apple Intelligence on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro in China in the future, but the currently published guidance applies only to Macs.

Apple's documentation does not specify the actual model version being integrated, and it remains unconfirmed whether Qwen3.8-Max, recently released by Alibaba, is being used. For Apple, this strengthens AI feature competitiveness in the Chinese PC market, while Alibaba expands Qwen's user touchpoints beyond its own apps and cloud services.
