The 2nd KakaoPay Hackathon: Inside the 2025 CafeTon Event

KakaoPay successfully wrapped up its 2nd in-house hackathon '2025 CafeTon', with 29 teams and 138 crew members participating. Since starting online in 2022, CafeTon was held offline for the first time in an overnight, two-day format after three years.

This event focused on leveraging AWS Generative AI services to bring crew members' ideas to life and enhance their AI utilization capabilities. Through prior training, participants learned Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, and based on this, showcased results applying various generative AI models.

The main award winners are as follows:

• 1st place (Team Akkanhwanaminjaesinnam): An AI assistant that learns KakaoPay's internal terminology to generate scripts and meeting minutes suited to the audio type.
• 2nd place (Team MOZ): A daily record service that generates images based on transaction history and provides natural language search functionality.
• 3rd place (Team Face Five): A kiosk payment solution that uses facial recognition and RAG to recommend hyper-personalized menus.

Judging was conducted via booth tours and a final presentation format, and participants shared their technical achievements and insights while immersing themselves from planning through development.
